{"id":511,"date":"2017-06-12T07:26:46","date_gmt":"2017-06-12T11:26:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/groundbasedspacematters.com\/?p=511"},"modified":"2017-06-12T07:27:32","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T11:27:32","slug":"the-fcc-and-internet-freedom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/groundbasedspacematters.com\/index.php\/2017\/06\/12\/the-fcc-and-internet-freedom\/","title":{"rendered":"The FCC and Internet Freedom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Federal Communications Commission released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/FR-2017-06-02\/pdf\/2017-11455.pdf\"><strong>a notice of proposed rulemaking<\/strong><\/a> that is of regulatory, if not space law, interest.\u00a0 The FCC<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>proposes to end the Commission\u2019s public-utility regulation of the Internet and seeks comment on returning to the bipartisan, light-touch regulatory framework that saw the free and open Internet flourish prior to the 2015 adoption of the Commission\u2019s Title II Order.\u00a0 Specifically, the NPRM proposes to return broadband Internet access service to its classification as an information service, return the classification of mobile broadband to its classification as a private mobile service, and eliminate the Internet standard.
